Floral option for Riesling: citrus blossom

3/17/17
This has a captivating nose which combines lemon/lime citrus overtures, lime cordial, citrus blossom and a touch of stony minerals, which carries over into the palate. Medium bodied and weighting in at around 12 % alcohol by volume, this has a lovely acid spine that gives drive and juiciness to the pear, and citrus flavors with a stony, lightly chalky note that adds a mineral element to the fruit. Juicy in the mid palate with a dry finish, this would work well with Asian fusion food. You can drink now but it should age beautifully for the next 8-10 years quite easily.

Winemakers Notes: Our Watervale Riesling is picked from a special part of the Florita vineyard in Watervale. This famous Riesling vineyard usually achieves full ripeness, with high natural acid levels.

Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: The grapes for this wine were selected from the Timbervines vineyard, (thirty-five year old dryland vines cropping at 2 tonne to the acre). This vineyard produces wines of intense citrus like flavours. The 2004 vintage was a difficult vintage however we managed to obtain flavour ripeness at a lower baume than normal and picked this fruit before the rain. The juice was fermented under temperature controlled conditions to maintain all of its fruit characters. True to Hunter tradition, no oak is used.
Winemaker's notes: Picked at ripeness of 12% which still had good ripe flavours the wine was cold fermented in stainless steel and bottled early to maintain its fresh flavours. The acid strength holds the wine together and is the main factor that allows the wine to age.

Green gold in colour with sweet perfumed fruit on the nose. The citrus and grassy characters combine to provide a wine of extraordinary character.
The palate is mouth filling with ripe fruit characters up front, a full middle palate and a crisp clean acid finish. The fruit characters on the palate will further intensify and complex as the wine matures.
The wine is drinking superbly now, however will reward mid-term cellaring. Due to its full, soft nature the wine will match with a wide array of food.

Yalumbia website. Fermentation by natural or ‘wild’ yeast, naturally present in the vineyard has helped shape this wine; think minerality, grapefruit and pineapple flavours.
The palate is an alluring combination of fresh fruits, spices such as white pepper and just enough “wildness” to keep you coming back for another glass. It finishes with a fresh cleansing line of citrus zest.
A sulfide aroma upon opening gives way to tropical fruit after about 30 minutes. Moderate lemony acidity carries through to the finish. Easy food-friendly wine at a great price.

Deep dark red purple colour with nice legs. On the nose rich aromas of blackberries plums, cacao with spicy & woody hints as well as some smokiness. On the palate rather medium bodied with soft tannins. Flavours of blackcurrants, plums tobacco, subtle chocolate go well with woody & smokey undertones. There's also something sweet, some spices? Medium finish with good fruity & again smokey/leather aftertaste. It went well with beefsteak. But I doubt it can get better. Not tasted anything with upward potential.

I'm a self-admitted sucker for labels! I was drawn in by this Tree of Life..beautiful & bright..This was a delightful experience from SA. Light magenta in color.Aromas of red berries, elderflower & rose petals. Softness on the palate, med bodied, nicely integrated tannins & acidity. Touch sweet of cocoa. The finish sticks with a lingering candied raspberry flavor. Great QPR!
rhone blend, 50% syrah. Certified sustainable. Real fresh strawberry nose to it, fruit bomb, again, super easy drinking. New red wine drinker friendly. Bunch of RS to it.
